Hello All,
Basically, I’ve been having trouble figuring out what to do with my next 3.9 years at college. Currently, I am at Indiana University studying finance. I was not a direct admit into the Kelley Business school due to my ‘sub par’ HS grades, but am a firm believer in myself with getting into the school. I’m not doing a fraternity here at the moment because 1) I don’t know if I will be here next year 2) is sort of a conflict of interest academics wise considering I talked to kids who pulled 2.1’s during their pledgeship. I am definitely up for Greek life but would just like to be surrounded by more people who can balance the two. I’m currently in the investment banking club, undergraduate investments club.
I am working on starting my own fund on the side (it’s in its baby steps, but small hedge fund type deal). I also currently blog on the side about the markets and stocks (free time thing). Here at IU/Kelley there is an extremely competitive/lucrative organization that is called
the ‘Investment banking workshop’. It has 100% placement rates into firms in NY/Chicago/LA/ ect, a very good workshop. It has about a 50% placement admission rate (you have to apply by the end of your sophomore year or before) and there’s about 60-70 kids (and increasing they say) admitted per class.
I went into IU thinking I was going to stay here for a year and transfer to a more well rounded school (business is, like, the only program people do here) where there would be less people in my concentrated study or to transfer to more of a target school (IU/USC/UMICH/BC/NWU,WISCO/VANDY/NYU) ect. I feel if I was at a more well rounded school, say 50 people in the class who want to do IB, I would have more time concentrated on me and a diversified student body major wise.
This is by no means me being scared of competition. My plan right now is to kill it my first semester, apply to some schools at the break, and then kill it for the rest of the remaining year (often times schools send spring grade requests so that’s important.) Has anyone ever been in this situation like me? Thoughts at all. Please, whether you agree or not…I need some insight. Thank you.
