do i write down where else i am applying?

on their app.. chicago asks:

"(Optional) List the names of other colleges to which you are applying. Click "Save & Add" after entering the name of each college. Click "Save & Continue" after making your last entry."

do i answer it? or not..?

it's your choice, many people only write down the less selective colleges, so uchi doesn't seem like an ivy-backup. But it's really up to you.

geez. celebrian.. what are u doing on here as well?
how did u get on hereee!! lol

so out of my list which ones should i write down: brown, gtown, nyu, claremont, oxy, wellesley, wesleyan, bc, barnard

hahaha I am EVERYWHERE! No one can escape me!

I'm not skilled enough to pick which ones, but off the top of my head pick equals and lesser than UChicago, so if you were applying to yale, I wouldn't put it on since they are more selective. BC, NYU, and oxy seem like equal or lesser than. Barnard I would say no for the fact it's one of the most competetive of the women's colleges (along with wesllesley). Claremont, I'm not sure, I'm not quite sure how competetive it is compared to Uchi. Gtown I would leave off, and I think NYU would be fine to keep on, though I'm not sure of their selectivity either

i think i'll just not answer this question

that's always a safe bet. Maybe put down one or two, like BC or NYU. That way you stay safe.

hmm i'm not sure if your theory is quite right

I've patrolled these threads since my freshman year. I am now a junior. Put down BC at least, it is less selective. UChi is much more selective, both in acceptance rates and the strength of the student body. Putting down none can send the signal that you don't want them to know where else you're applying.

are you sure about this.. where are all these EA acceptees gone to!!!

okay I've checked my sources, putting down none is fine. It's the safe way to go. Good luck to you with UChi. Either way, it won't have much bearing on your application

what are your "sources".. or who are your "sources"?

The old forums...much useful stuff there. There has been an ongoing debate about it, but it seems to have no effect on the decision. I checked the thread, and it was very helpful, but it really doesn't seem to have a big impact, if any at all.

ok good.
so my safest bet is to just leave that blank...?

Yep, sure is.

Ha. I applied EA and put Swarthmore, Reed, Haverford, Wesleyan, Oberlin, and UNC Chapel Hill (where I've since decided against applying). I'm not applying to any Ivies.

Those are all about selective as uchi though, wouldn't you say? I don't mean acceptance rate, I mean selectivity.

Sure. Haverford is traditionally thought of as being less selective than Swarthmore...but Dave Barry went there!

hahaha yes that's true. I mean it wasn't like you put down Yale or anything like that. While haverford is less selective, not by much. They're all in the same ballpark.

May I ask why you decided to take UNC off the list?

I wasn't really interested in it aside from the fact that I felt obligated to have a state school on the list and it's in warm weather. It's kind of big and very different from the rest of the schools to which I'm applying. I'm also applying to Grinell, Pomona, and Kenyon.
