do i write down where else i am applying?

Yes, it seemed to not fit in with the others on your list. I'm a junior, and being from ohio, I can never decide if I like kenyon or not. It's just so rural, but I love everything else about it fights internally

Yeah it is. I live in Ohio, too, and I really don't want to stay here. It's my safety...because it IS a good school and it wouldn't kill me to go there.

Miami (ohio) and wittenberg are probably going to be my ohio schools next year. My dad is an alummni for Miami, and I think I could get good merit aid there...but again, it's so freaking rural (I'm from columbus, no small city:p). Wittenberg is probably my fave, and I would actually have no qualms about going there if everywhere else fell out. Right now, this is my list: Yale (possible ea), Columbia, Stanford (possible ea), Princeton, UChi, Wittenberg, Miami (oh), Skidmore, and Brown. Money is an issue, so I'll probably end up at wittenberg

Practically my entire school is applying to Miami Oxford, haha. A lot of my teachers went there. (I live in suburban Cincinnati) I don't know much of anything about Wittenberg...

I need merit aid. Living in columbus, ohio state is a big one, actually a huge one. When a rep came, to talk to students who signed up, they had to go to the audiotorium when they typically go to a small office in the main office

Yeah, I need merit aid too (I will probably not get need based aid), but you couldn't pay me enough to go to OSU or UC.

my parents make too little to pay full, but too much for need-based. Basically, 100k seems like a lot, but not when split between 6 people, 1 in college, 1 on the way (that'd be me), and 2 more to go. On top of that, my parents are divorcing, and my sister (in college) has already had to take out loans at bowling green WITH a $6,000 scholarship. So I'll pay pretty darn close to full. Using a fin. aid calc, My parents will have to pay for a good 30k from a 40k school.

ouch, celebrian...

that's a shark infested waters you are in. As for myself, I have put USC (south carolina) Honors, JHU, Brown, Northwestern and Stanford.

I know, which is why I'll probably be stuck in Ohio. I'm tired of stupid people on this site who think i'm rich because my parents make 100k. Well, we're not, at all. My only hope is to go to a good public (UMich,UVA or UNC) and get a good minority scholarship. I know some of the privates have good scholarships, but I would have .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 % chance of getting it. Like columbia's kluge scholar program sounds great, but even if a miracle happens and I get in, there's that astronomically small chance of me getting most of it paid by one of those very few scholarships. The other minority one I know of is Duke's,again highly competetive, and I really don't like Duke that much. I am black by the way.:p

That blows. I'm in the 6-figure boat too. And also a minority (latina)...

Hi Christina. I applied EA and I put nothing.

Of course, they probably would've been quite displeased if I had put my ED school, Columbia.

Don't you think its kind of unfair to those of us who really want to go to Chicago that you applied early to both but weren't upfront about it? I considered applying to Columbia ED as well but felt it would be shady to have both schools think I really wanted to go there if I knew I would go to Columbia over Chicago if I could.

Yeah, I suppose it's unfair but I'm concerned with getting into Chicago. I really really wanted to go to Chicago. I really really wanted to go to Columbia. I would be totally satisfied with both schools and would thus do whatever it takes to ensure that I have my best possible chances at each.

I mean, just beacuse I would have to go to Columbia over Chicago doesn't mean that I would definitely get in. What if I got rejected from both and one of them was due to the fact that one school was assuming that I'd go to the other?

Don't you already know if you're in or out at columbia?

Yeah, I'm in. I'm still not completely forgetting about Chicago though because if they're willing to give me enough scholarship/finaid money, I might decline Columbia. But I doubt it. We'll see.

I contemplated withdrawing to free up a slot but I figured I'd have to decide soon and so they'd fill my slot with an RD or EA deferral kid anyway.

you can't decline columbia unless they give you a seriously unreasonable financial package. you could get people from your school blacklisted at columbia for years.

Really? Yeah, that's probably true. I haven't really looked much into it...

You applied ED without "looking into it?" No wonder people shun the option so much.

seriously, you lost all flexibility when you applied ED. oh well, at least you're in.

I know plenty about the school. The ramifications of rejecting their financial aid package though, I could know more about. I understand that I don't have to accept admission unless their financial aid package is sufficient. That's what it said on the application. What I was saying earlier is that I haven't heard anythjing about getting my school blacklisted for years or whatever indytucker was saying.

Also, yeah, pardon my ignorance. I've tried to leave most of the financial aid management to my parents.
