Do international applicants have a harder time getting admitted due to COVID 19?

I am asking this on behalf of a friend. My friend’s son is an international student applicant who applied to 10 American colleges and got rejected from all of them. Although he’s no genius, he’s ok and has a scholarship grant from his home country’s govt to pay all 4 years of American colleges. He plans to apply to American colleges one more time next year but they are now unsure if COVID 19 was the reason he got denied.

It could be, but I doubt it. Although international students not already in the country might have a problem getting their visas on time for fall, a lot of colleges would be happy to lock in a strong full-pay international applicant for the spring or deferral, especially with the economy in tough shape.

Without knowing where he applied and whether he overreached for his stats, it is difficult to say for sure.

That is very unlikely. I have seen any stats that universities reduced the number of international acceptances.
