do interviews count much?

...i hope so

well then i have some bad news for you

I’m sorry to say that interviews basically don’t matter. Due to limited availability, not everybody is offered an interview and UPenn doesn’t want to hurt some students simply because they don’t have alumn in the area. The report from your interview will be sent in, but the person who performed the interview isn’t an addmissions officer and has 0 say in what happens to you. At the end of the day interviews are merely a way to seem more wholistic and to reach out to students. Best of luck to you regardless.

it’s been 5 years and i’m still waiting for my interview =(

at least they gave me a degree

haaaa haaaa

Interviews DO matter. This poster’s advice is dead wrong. Ignore interviews at your own peril. As a Penn alumni, and an interviewer for many years, I can tell you that the AdCom considers interviews an integral part of an applicant’s file. Interviews are a chance for the committee to see the candidate as a person, not just a stack of papers and data. If the interviewer is not impressed, the report he/she fills out will reflect that, and the committee will respond negatively to a poor report. A positive interview recommendation from the interviewer will enhance a candidate’s chances greatly, especially from a seasoned interviewer who has seen many candidates and can tell the committee that a candidate really stands out. An interviewer’s opinion that a candidate really isn’t in the ballpark also means a great deal to the committee.

A blanket statement that interviews don’t matter sounds suspect on its face, and I can tell you from experience, it is the wrong advice, don’t follow it.
