When the admissions counselor visited my school, he said that interviews were non-evaluative and simply another way for students to learn about the school. However, other students have claimed they had evaluative interviews. Do they count?

They do not count. When I had my interview, I was explicitly told that they are non-evaluative. The college website also confirms it. Additionally, I have plenty of friends here who did not interview. Some of us had interviews, others didn’t. It’s for you, not so much for the school.

I have had two children accepted to and attend Vassar and neither had an interview. One requested one but didn’t get one and the other never requested one (was very familiar with the school having visited for 4 years).

It would be advantageous to prospective students if the Admissions Office spoke with one mind.

I do Alum interviews. Our feedback is reviewed by the admissions staff, but admissions decisions are made based on the students application, not their interview. That said, if there is something compelling one way or the other that was apparent in the interview, we are asked to share that in our feedback/write-up.
