I am an economics/math major at a private university in mass and I have just screwed up last semester and got a pretty bad gpa and if i buckle in i might get my gpa to about a 2.8. I had just transferred from another school but due to the economy i just cant afford it. I had applied to Amherst before and got in (3.3 gpa freshman year,3.7 high school) I am just worried if that they might reject me. Do you think they average the gpa between both the schools?

bump > bump

I would guess that they compute a cumulative GPA combining both schools, but who knows? I don’t think anyone here has that much insight into UMass admissions policies, unless they work for UMass.

Call them and ask them, maybe they will tell you.

I did talk to my admissions transfer counselor and she said they might take it into consideration. I know Economics is pretty hard to transfer into. Should i apply undecided

Your current GPA is on a downward trend, and in addition to that, it’s below a 3.0. I’m not sure that you’d get into UMass at this point. However, if you can get your GPA back up again, then even if your overall GPA is still a bit low due to this past bad semester, you’ll have a shot. You’d want to explain what happened in your essay, to highlight the fact that this one bad term isn’t representative of who you are; that your other grades are who you are.

thanks RoaringMice I will definitely include that in my essay. I just want to get in so bad

How’s about your SAT, extracurricular activities…?

SATs were pretty bad around 1100 CR AND Math. EC: national honor society, student leadership committee, Caribbean Student network, Student council off the top of my head . I got on the deans list in my other school and my class rank was top 7% of my class and i had three AP classes
