Okay i have to admit i got one C (only first semester on my H English Class) on my freshman year.

Im going to be a Sophomore now, so if say i got almost perfect grades throughout the rest of my years in high school + community service, etc.. Is there still a chance? I mean i have a FREAKKIN "C!" THATS REAAALLLLYYY BAD :(

I’m sure highly selective schools will look at everything. But there’s nothing you can do about that C, so look towards the future and make sure you maintain straight A’s.

Yes, most Ivy League schools do look at your freshman year, and in many cases, 8th grade if you took classes for high school credit. That being said, if from here on out you manage to get straight A’s, most schools will be able to overlook that one “C” especially since it came so early on in your high-school career. Don’t worry, your chances aren’t completely ruined. Just focus on your future grades.

It’s not worth worrying about. Unless you have a really good excuse for a C in Frosh English, the chances of you earning A’s in the next three years of English courses are slim.

The Ivies consider class rank so yes, Frosh grades count. Look at it this way: without a hook, why should a selective college pick you over (dozens?) ranked higher in your high school?

Hey, during my freshmen year…I had one C and all the rest all A’s and i have all A’s in sophomore, junior…and I got a C in math but i got perfect score in American math competition

Since you’re new, you’re probably not aware that most CC users consider it bad form to revive an old, dormant thread to ask your own new question. We’d much rather that you start a new thread.

Look at the dates on the posts before yours in this thread. This whole conversation was almost a year and a half old. Reading old threads is great–you’ll learn a lot that way–but if reading an old thread prompts a question in your mind, please create a new thread to ask it.
