Do legacies actually improve your chances?

I am applying ed at Virginia Tech with my dad and grandfather both alumni. My grandfather is a donor there. My grandfather is also fraternity brothers with one of Tech's largest donors($5mil), and he's going to help too. I am a good student (3.9 unweighted gpa, with a 1110 SAT, and lots of extracurriculars). Obviously my SAT is a little low, but I was wondering if these connections actually do help? Thanks!

1110…? Is this a typo. Or is this only M + CR? Because if it’s out of 2400, your grandfather needs to be the 5 million dollar donor for you to get in

Math plus CR! Haha I should’ve been more specific! My all 3 is a 1750- m: 530, cr: 580, and w: 640

If your grandfather’s friend calls in on your behalf, you’re in. But otherwise, no dice. Your grandfather doesn’t seem like a big enough donor to swing anything but his friend could. He has to call in though and get to the right people.

Vtech isnt as big on legacy as other institutions but, they do consider it.
