Like in a college interview, would it make any difference if you were physically attractive/unattractive?

I know the obvious answer is no, but surely its in human nature to be influenced by how someone looks...

Just wondering.

Like in a college interview, would it make any difference if you were physically attractive/unattractive?

Just wondering.

If it did, no one would be willing to admit it. I think personal chemistry between interviewer and interviewee makes more of a difference.

The obvious answer is yes.

If someone walks into the room, and makes a good, attractive, professional appearance, that is a big plus.

Schools want to take winners.

Do more attractive people get hired more often?

Seahawks:

Yes, more attractive people get hired more often. I used to work in an advertising agency, and it was filled with attractive women. And you will notice that most pharmaceutical sales reps are attractive women, because the drug companies know that the doctor will be more likely to take 5 minutes out of his busy schedule to meet with a sales rep if she is a beautiful girl, as opposed to a fat guy.

Look at the republican candidates for President. Romney is good looking. So is Perry.
And so is Obama. And so was Reagan. Looks matter.

You don’t have to be beautiful to appear attractive, if you know what I mean. Appear confident, friendly, dress for the occasion (as necessary), well groomed…and that is what makes a person attractive. You are not trying for a TV anchor here.

But what about in terms of a COLLEGE interview, like the OP asked?

Nina:

I would say it indeed matters in the college interview. It is a plus. But standing alone, looks will not be enough. But if you have two duplicate candidates, but one makes a sharp appearance and one doesn’t, they are more likely to take the sharp one. But as noted, you can make a good appearance even if you are not attractive, by dressing in a professional manner, and by being poised.

A better question is how much does a college interview matter?

I guess if you’re Will Smith in “Fresh Prince”, you can get an auto-admit to Princeton (look for it on Youtube). However, in the real world, the interviews matter little.

I think OP said it best.

the obvious answer is no, but surely its in human nature to be influenced by how someone looks…

Haha I know floridadad, I was just asking a rhetorical question. People have a weakness for attractive people of the opposite gender, but it barely makes a difference in the interview process. If you’re a hot bimbo and your dumb personality shows, your interviewer isn’t going to rate you well. If you want looks to help you (doesn’t matter if you’re good looking or not) then just dress very well and behave politely.

I think you’re looking for the term “charisma,” not beauty.

Beauty may be mistaken for vanity.
