Say you get the 19 meals a week plan, but you only use 16 (or you go home for the weekend etc). Does it transfer over to the next week, and if you have meal plans remaining at the end, does it transfer over to the next quarter? Or are you just losing money?

losing money

Unfortunately, it resets every week. Meals don’t transfer over to the proceeding week and you can’t use more than two meals for a particular meal period. For example, you can’t use up a meal for breakfast then walk to another dining commons to use up another meal for a second breakfast.

I believe you mean you can’t use more than one meal point per meal period.

And you can’t “swipe” other people in. Your meal points are only for you and no one else.

yeah all these are true, which is why i hate the policy, and they wont even let you take food out, and if you’re in the dorms meal plans are required.

The 19 meal plan means you eat every meal available at the dining halls. Seems like a bad plan if you think you will eat any off campus meals. The 10 meal plan could be a little shy, but if you like to get out to Isla Vista or take the bus to various locations around Goleta or Santa Barbara, that would be a good plan.

Nobody should be surprised that they don’t let you take food out of a buffet style dining hall. There is really no better way to set this system up and not have it abused.

i only did 10 when i ate there, i would use 9 by friday and skip dinner friday night cause i was at the gym or i went out, and with 1 meal left i just went to brunch on Saturday and i was free to eat whatever on saturday night and all of sunday, i think you have to a certain week to downgrade or upgrade, or i think maybe it was if you want to upgrade to more meals they can do it right away the following week, if you want to downgrade then you have to wait until next quarter, they do try to rip you off any way they can

dragondawg,

If you hate the rules, why are you in the dorms in the first place? You have plenty of information about the rules and conditions before you sign up for dorm living. It should be cheaper to live off-campus and you would live by your own rules.

With DLG Late Night available, there are actually a total of 23 “slots” for using your meals, so if you have the 19 meal plan and miss a regular meal, you could always hit that up.

yeah but who wants to go to dlg.

im at carrillo and i never make breakfast… hopefully i start using it with early classes or im out a bunch of money for no reason

pretty much everyone lives in the dorms at least once, especially when they put you there when its your first time here and dont really know anyone or the area.

Go for 14 meal plans.

so that you don’t waste money, and in the (rare) event you run out of food, just eat cup noodles for one day or something.
