Do merit scholarships to top tier prep schools exist?

Now that acceptances have gone out, we are wondering if there's any chance of getting a merit scholarship. Miss Porter's has a merit scholarship for legacy girls. Other than that I'm not aware of any. We asked the AOs at the schools (GLADCHEMS) and they denied it, but our exclusive day schools also denied it and then offered kid a half ride.

I mean there is financial aid, but most schools don’t have merit scholarships. Just because the kid was given a half ride does not mean it was merit based.

My daughter was only looking at all-girls schools. She received a full merit scholarship at one of the 6 schools she applied to. We are so thrilled for her!

Some schools have merit scholarships available to applicants. This information can usually be found on the school’s website. Merit scholarships and financial aid are different, though. They could have offered someone half a ride because of their financial situation, not necessarily based upon merit.

The half ride was merit based.

I was awarded a merit scholarship to a GLADCHEMS school, don’t want to say which one or which scholarship due to being identified.

Kent School offers merit scholarships. I don’t think it’s mentioned on the web site. Mercersburg Academy and Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA are two more co-ed boarding schools that I know offer merit scholarships. There are likely more. You may be able to sort schools by this criteria on Boarding School Review.

There are a few we have heard about on these boards over the years at the top schools; I think mainly named awards and typically for sought after athletes? In general, it is very rare for HADES

Peddie has merit scholarships, I think.
