This might sound stupid, but do colleges weigh how you do on your midterms and finals into your final grade of a course? The reason I'm asking is because I tend to do badly on my midterms and finals (usually a whole letter grade worse than my average) and they are hurting my grades. Hope someone can help, thanks!

Um... well we don't have midterms but our finals count as 1/7 of our grade for the course, but our transcripts only show the final grade for the course, not trimester or final exam grades. Your transcript may be different than mine though, I'm not sure

If the final is figured into your semester grade then yes. I had an A- in precalc and after getting a C+ on the final, it went down to a B+

Colleges consider what they see. If they are able to see what you got on a final/midterm, it will be considered.

If all they see is your final semester grade, that's all they'll consider.

A few of my final year grades in a few of my classes were border line and the final exam brought them down, mainly because they count for 1/5 of our final grade. Do you think if my counselor wrote a little note explaining this, some colleges may be willing to "overlook" it in a way? Or will I be stuck just as the kid with a C+ in math even if it was a 79.3 or something like that, even if I had B's for almost every quarter except 1....

yeah that happened to me too. A-'s all year for history then a stupid B- on the final and I'm stuck with a B+ for the year. boo.
I wouldnt ask the GC to write a note though, it'd probably sound whiny or something

but when it comes down to a c+ or a b-, a b- sounds a LOT better. but my gpa is already screwed, happened to like 3 classes this year, and 1 or 2 last year

hm... well what's your problem with the exams? bc some of your college classes are probably going to use midterms/finals as a large chunk of your grade

well it's really the stress and pressure of knowing that the 1 test counts for so much of our final grade (1/5) that gets to me. then we actually have to do the 4 hours of testing (2 days a day, 2 hours each) and i just have a brain shut down with the stress and stuff.

Midterms and finals constitute a massive part of your total grade in college. Pointing out to adcoms that you don't do well on them seems like a very foolish idea.

ok, so i should just live with my lower grades and not mention anything about it if they ask?
