Do midwestern kids fit in?

I know this has been asked before, but I’d love to hear more opinions. What would it be like for an Ohio girl to immerse herself in the south at Auburn? She would be in the honors program. Thanks for any feedback!

haha Well, we’re from Michigan and moved to Georgia in 1997. Not a problem at all!! We love it and wouldn’t move back. My son is going to AU in honors, too. I think the whole “Yankee” silliness in more what Northerners think Southerners think. We’ve only had two people act less-than-intelligent, with regard to us being “Yankees” in a derogatory manner. We considered the source and laughed. Actually, we were “Midwesterners” and I’ve met many “Yankees” who I have really liked! You’ll totally fit in!!

I don’t know of a flagship university that is more open to non-locals and less class-conscious.

This video may provide a better understanding - Tigers in a New Territory: [Auburn University - Tigers in a New Territory](http://www.auburn.edu/academic/provost/undergrad_studies/fye/tnt/index.htm)

Wow! What reassuring posts! Auburn sounds like a great environment and I can’t wait for us to visit! I have been to their website several times, but had never seen that video, so I really appreciate the link. Thanks so much for posting it. The process of looking at colleges is very overwhelming, and I think this website and the people who frequent it are wonderful! Thank you again!

We’re from Minnesota. Our neighbor graduated from Auburna and just loved it. Her parents loved it so much they bought a condo in Auburn and are going to sell it and buy a house and retire there. We visited there in February to check out the school for our daughter and we felt more welcome there than any other place we visited including colleges in Minnesota! This included not only people at the university, but also the hotel, restaurants, etc. There really is something to that “southern hospitality” thing!
