I really want the on-campus experience, but in my admissions packet I got a sheet about off-campus. Does this mean I won’t be on-campus? :(

I suppose I wouldn’t mind living off campus, but I’m a minor (seventeen until December, but I start in September), etc.

Any ideas?

Are you an incoming freshman? If, so you have guaranteed on-campus housing. (99% of all freshmen live on campus; the only exceptions are local students who are commuting from home.)

You either are guaranteed four years of on-campus housing or three years. If three, you may need to study overseas or live off campus one year, most students choose their Junior year.

As a freshman don’t worry about it.

I think the majority of students, when given a choice, choose to live on campus.

Check your acceptance letter. It will say whether you have 3 or 4 years of guaranteed on-campus housing. (Half of the incoming freshmen class gets 3 years, and the other half gets 4.) As coldcase noted, if you have only 3 years, it’s the junior year that you don’t get on-campus housing, but even then you can request it and will get it if there is a room available for you.

BC’s long-range goal is to provide on-campus housing for every student that wants it and they had hoped to do that within the next 10 years. BC had just started a major capital campaign when the economy began to tank. So they may have to delay some of their building plans for a while.

I called the student service office and asked them the same question (I wanted to commute since I live about 45 minutes away from BC). The guy told me that only 8 freshmen live off campus and most of them because they practically live couple of blocks away from the campus.

Holy crap, I forgot to add the important info: I’m a transfer student, admitted as second semester sophomore!

Here is a link that has some transfer student info:

[Transfer Student Housing Options - Boston College](http://www.bc.edu/admission/undergrad/transfer/housing.html)

I saw that, but it’s not so clear on whether I will be guaranteed a year of housing THIS year. :(

I suggest that you call the school as soon as they open on Tuesday morning to confirm that you have on-campus housing for the coming year. If you do not, then you should immediately appeal. Point out that being under 18 (a minor) will make it extremely difficult – if not impossible – for you to secure suitable off-campus housing, since you can’t sign a lease.

Exactly, thank you so much! :D
