My parents made me work my behind off for a scholarship - it’ll pay for 75%.

I was lucky enough to get a full ride from my parents, but I still keep a job on the side of school. For people in my situation without jobs, I think it’s important to realize that things won’t always be handed to you. Those who don’t pick up jobs while in college are going to face a harsh reality when they graduate and the carpet is pulled out from under them. I have plenty of friends who go to art schools and have never worked a day in their lives. It’s a true shame.

I will now get off of my soap box.

My parents pay 100%. I don’t feel guilty or anything because it isn’t remotely a problem for them and they’re more than happy to do it… what else are they going to spend all their money on? I guess they could get maybe a very nice ferrari for the ~200k that college costs, but I think they see this as a little more valuable.

Parents aren’t obligated to help pay for their children college education- it would be nice if they were, but they aren’t. College is an investment, sometimes not everyone in your family will be willing to throw most of their eggs into that basket for you, unfortunately.
