I'm primarily interested in Michigan, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, Duke, and Penn. Is it common for any of these schools to ask for more than 1 teacher rec letter? If they only require one, would it be to one's advantage to include more? Tks.

i think most schools require two. Penn definitely does, at least. although if they only require one, just send in one, unless you feel that another rec would significantly strengthen your app (i.e. two extremely positive recs possibly touching on different strengths).

If your school only requires one, they may or may not allow additional recs. If they do, it would be helpful to send in an extra one only if you know your additional rec will add more insight into your character. For example, if you send in a required science teacher rec, you can also send in a rec by your history teacher who may also happen to be an advisor for a club you participate in.

I know UofM and NU only ask for one, but yeah you’re right I would guess Penn requires more.

Problem is, I can only think of one teacher who’d write me a great rec!

^^ yeah I was thinking about having my yearbook adviser send one in commenting on my leadership, in addition to the standard teacher rec from my physics teacher
