Do most students have a car?

I live in OC, about 400 miles away, so I'm wondering if I should bring my car or not if I get in. What is the rough % of people that have cars (specifically for juniors/seniors)?

It rounds out to about 0%. Most things are within 20 minute walking distance. For everything else you take the bus. If you need to get to the airport to travel home, you take the BART.

Where I live I see most riding bikes or walking since there is a nice walking distance from stores, campus, and dorms/apartments.

The Bay Area isn’t really huge on cars, in general. Public transportation is good though.

Driving can be pretty dicey too since you have a lot of jaywalkers and inconsiderate pedestrians.

Not to mention the general lack of parking, much less free parking.

I live about a twenty-minute walk from campus and although I don’t use my car to get to class, it does come in handy for grocery runs, running errands in the general area, and getting away on weekends.

I’d say maybe 5-10% of juniors and seniors have cars. Probably 75% of juniors and seniors have access to a car though (through a housemate or friend). In general I’d say it’s not worth bringing one unless the things you like to do for fun involve doing things where AC Transit or the BART can’t easily take you.

is the BART just buses? is their any free transportation from the campus to san francisco?

BART is like the subway, train, etc.

In your tuition fees, you pay for an AC transit buss pass. The F line of AC runs to San Francisco, though I’ve never done it, so I cannot comment on how “convenient” it is. You can go roundtrip to SF on BART for about $8, not too bad.

if in a greek house, yeah

if you’re goal is to have your car stolen or damaged…Berkeley is the smart choice.
