I plan to list engineering as my major.
As of now, my personal statements do not talk about engineering specifically.
Will this hurt my chance of being admitted into the CoE?

I think you are supposed to talk about why you wanna do engineering if you choose that major

No they do not. They want to learn more about you as a person and what kind of human qualities you have.

IF you’re best essay idea is one that relates to engineering, by all means go for it. But if you have a “better” idea that has nothing to do with engineering, don’t feel like you have to force yourself to write an engineering-related essay.

If you’ve listed a specific major in the COE, Berkeley advises to mention why you want to take up that major.

You could write about why you want to take up Engineering in the Additional Section.

My friend got into EECS without discussing Engineering at all. If you’re confident in your chances at Berkeley, don’t let this deter you from applying to the engineering school.

I felt like an idiot after I saw how many people actually got in from my school, and realized what an dumbass I was for not applying engineering cuz my engineering essay wasn’t ready. I ended up turning down Cal L&S Regents’, which definitely wouldn’t have happened if I got in as an EECS major.
