Even though the SAT IIs are optional for GIT, I’m still worried that my scores will hurt a lot.
Math II: 740
Chemistry: 720
US History: 730
My Unweighted GPA is a 3.73, with the most rigorous curriculum possible at my school. My superscored ACT is a 34, with a 35 in English, 34 in Math, 33 in Reading, and 33 in Science. I thought my Common App essay was really strong (my AP Lit teacher, who is a really harsh grader, said he really liked it.) and my supplementals were decent. I also thought my extracurriculars were solid. I am also OOS (from California).
I know I have made a lot of threads asking about my chances for this school, but it’s because GIT is one of my top choices, and I really want to go here. I’m trying to get the best feedback possible so I can know what to expect. (Right now, I think GIT is a 50-50 shot.) I’m already surprised and a little upset, because I found out four days ago that I was deferred from Case Western Reserve University. Though it was not a top choice, I was baffled nonetheless, because I thought I had a really good chance.
Sorry if I sound really whiny, but I’m just worried about each thing that I think will bring down my chances for this school.
I had similar stats to you last year, and also from california! I’m in the honors program now, and had a 3.8 gpa, 33 act, 740 math II at the time, 750 chem and 680 ush. I think you’ll be fine
@TodaysEinstein I have two more questions:
- What do you think is a good GPA to have for GIT?
- When does GIT notify you about the honors program?
Thanks!
I’m also an honors program student. Anyone who gets in via EA is invited to apply in January, then you are notified later. My year, I found out at the end of March, but I believe HP is notifying earlier now. HP selection isn’t about GPA, it’s more extracurriculars and stuff like that.
Regarding your SATIIs, I did better on Math II than you but a little worse on US History and substantially worse on Physics (I didn’t take Chemistry SATII). The higher the scores and the higher the GPA the better, but if you applied EA then only two more weeks until you find out!
Yup pretty much the same as @gogeorgiatech says. I think a 3.7+ is good to get in.
While the scores aren’t perfect I doubt a couple of saturdays will ruin the three years of work in the rest of your application. Especially ad an EA applicant I think you have good chances. Submitting the SAT2’s won’t harm your application.
