So im looking at (in this order) MIT, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, JHU, Williams, Amherst, Cornell, U Chicago, Carnegie Mellon

advice would be helpful, i think my stats are good, but my sat score (i only took it once so far) might kill me. i hope not. thanks for your time, guys.

Good to go at all.

even with the sats where they are?

You'd probably have a great shot at any of those schools.
I don't think your 1480 drags you down much.

I'm a Mathlete on Long Island too.
How do you know you were the highest scorer in your county for a certain year? That's cool.

not highest scorer, high scorer, im in the 18-19 range, i made the tourney thing

You could try to retake them in October if you like. It probably couldn't hurt.

But, many schools won't just look at your SATs, so just because they are that low (and really, they aren't THAT low), it doesn't mean much of anything.

i think i was 5th actually, they have a list, u can ask ur mathlete advisor i think

Oh, cool, that's awesome.

I'm from Nassau, and I'm in whatever range Silver is.

You can get into any school you want. Seriously.

how bout a reach/match/safety breakup, anyone?

MIT- reach
Princeton- reach
Yale- reach
Columbia- slight reach (SATs are only in the way)
JHU- match
Williams- slight reach (SATs)
Amherst- slight reach (SATs)
Cornell- match
U Chicago- match
Carnegie Mellon- match

also im in new york, if that makes a difference

anyone else?

MIT- slight reach
Princeton- slight reach
Yale- slight reach
Columbia- slight reach
JHU- match
Williams- slight reach
Amherst- slight reach
Cornell- match
U Chicago- safe match
Carnegie Mellon- safe match

Some schools, such as MIT and Chicago, are still ignoring the writing section so you are in excellent shape. a 1480 URM Valedictorian makes you very close to a lock at a lot of places.

At the same time, I would highly recommend a retake of the SAT. Essentially, with CR & W scores over 700 you would be near invincible. But keep in mind, due to the randomness of the top schools, you never know.

Good luck! :)

Retake SASTs? Why? He's a URM with very respectable scores, val and has really good ECs. Go to the beach!

he could get a higher score most definitely...one of the smartest kids i know

He can get a 2300, he appears to just have had a bad day and forgotten how to read :)

thanks guys.

ok, i got the sat II scores back, i got 800 physics, 710 spanish, 690 lit

which is better to put down on the college app, 710 spanish or 690 lit, i know lit had a ridiculous average, i think it said i was in the 78th percentile, whereas in spanish only like the 62nd, but spanish is a higher score. doesnt really matter to me, as i sort of took both of those cold heheh, but any help would be nice

MIT Middle 50% range for 2010 admitted students

Test [25%, 75%]
SAT I Verbal [670, 770]
SAT I Math [730, 800]
SAT I Writing [670, 760]
ACT Composite [30, 34]
SAT II Math [740, 800]
SAT II Science [710, 800]
