I heard of two people who say they are accepted to NESCAC schools, both are athletic recruits. I thought the NESCAC schools just pushed athletes to apply ED with a verbal committement they'd be accepted. Do NESCAC schools have likely letters like the ivy's? Or do athletes fill out apps early and Admissions reviews them on a rolling basis and issues actual acceptance letters ahead of ED? It surprised me to hear this so I was wondering.

^ Aren’t you already a hs graduate?

Just wondering, because if this isn’t about you and your app as an athlete–why do you care?

Yes, I’m a freshman at a LAC but I went RD after being rejected somewhere. I spoke to my coach who said he would help but I never really asked for a likely letter since I assumed at that point it was too late so I sweated it out like everyone else until April. When I heard athletes were accepted before ED, it made me wonder if some schools use LL’s like the ivy’s. If so, I could have asked for one, although I did apply to a few schools RD and was still undecided. It doesn’t matter to my situation, but I am curious.

ok got it.
hopefully someone knows…
as far as I have read here–its an ivy tool to combat the D1 big schools…

hope someone who knows can solve the mystery for you.

Good luck in school.

No Likely letter for my son or his friends, attending 2 different NESCAC schools. Never even came up for discussion. Just the standard, apply ED.

^^At my son’s school, we were told by my son’s counselor that they (the school) will get a call saying if the athlete is in or not before the actual decision is mailed.

Someone else posted about NESCAC LLs, but to my understanding, this is not done.

We were told by the Midd coach that “the walk-thru was favorable” but not that DS was accepted, and told we had to wait til the e-mail acceptance day in December. DS was in, and an hour later got a congratulatory e-mail from coach saying how sorry coach was not to be able to tell us, but wasn’t allowed…

It is my experience that NESCAC schools do not issue likely letters. I asked for one at my D2’s NESCAC school and was told that they didn’t do that. However, I was told that for RD, they do “early writes” which is a letter saying that you are accepted before the RD letters come out. But with ED, you have to wait for the letter to arrive in December like everyone else (and try not to succumb to the nervousness of committing without anything tangible in hand).
