DO NOT Chance Me - (Mainly CA Schools) :D

I hope the reverse psychology worked.

I also put this in the Parents Forum because I know the parents are all very knowledgeable and I will get the most accurate chances here and the best advice. I know parents are wise. :D Please don't get mad that I put this thread in two forums. ;) ;)

Thanks for taking the time to chance me. I've been on this site for a long time (over a year!), and I've learned A LOT! This will be my final chance thread with my final schools.

White Male
Upper-Middle Class
Los Angeles Area
Pretty good public school. Ranked about 50th in CA & 500th in USA.

GPAs:
(None of them include sports, Weighted = All APs + Honors = Additional Point)

9-11 Un-Weighted:
-3.33
9-11 Weighted:
-3.65
UC / Cal State A-G GPA (10-11 & only some are weighted):
-3.45

GPA by grade (GPAs are unweighted):

9th:
3.4 / 3.6
1 Honors Course (Not UC / Cal State Approved)

10th:
2.8 / 3.0
4 Honors Courses (Killer!) (Only 1 Honors is UC / Cal State Approved Weighted)

11th:
3.67 / 3.33
1 AP & 1 Honors (Eased it up a bit) (Both UC / Cal State Approved Weighted)

12th:
6 Classes
(2 APs & Leadership Included) (So far I have about a 3.3)

I think I have a better chance at my private schools because they weight all honors, not just the "UC / Cal State Approved Honors". 10th grade killed me!

SAT: My Strength!
CR: 690
M: 710
W: 610

2010 Total (Lots of the college I'm applying to only use CR + M, which mine is extremely high, 1400)

Pretty Good ECs:
-Leadership (Commissioner)
-Varsity Sport 12th, JV sports 9-11 (switched sports)
-Virtual Business Class (Qualified & will compete in New York Business Plan Competition)
-Couple Awards
-Traveled to 10 Countries
-70 Hours of Community Service (40 in Foreign Country Building a House)
-Fairly Active in Church
-2 Clubs

Courses:
-Only 3 Years of Math (Adv. Alg, Pre-Calc, & Stats) - No Math Sr. Year (AP Calc is super hard at our school, my friend got an F and we have no other math classes.)
-Only 2 Foreign Language (Teachers sucked & I got bad grades)
-4 Science (2 AP, 1 Honors)
-Lots of Electives
-Everything else is good

Planned Major: Business (Will apply business to all schools)

Colleges:

Big Reach:
-USC (2nd Choice)
Small Reach:
-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (1st Choice) (Applied Early Decision & Got Deferred)
High Match:
-Santa Clara (Tied 3rd Choice)
-University of San Diego (Tied 3rd Choice)
Match:
-Chapman (Tied 5th Choice)
Low Match:
-Loyola Marymount (Tied 5th Choice)
-SDSU (7th Choice)
Safety:
-ASU (8th Choice)

(Also, if there is still a school I can still apply to (only privates now) that you think matches me / I should apply to, let me know!!)

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

:( Sniffle. Anyone?

[AHS c/o 2008](http://www.arcadiachineseparents.org/college.html)

Check out the above scatterplots to see some real life results for someone with your unweighted GPA and SAT scores. Of course, these figures are for the Class of 2008 and getting into some schools has become more competitive since then.

Using a 3.3 GPA and 2000 SAT, here’s what the magic 8 ball charts might predict:

USC-no; SDSU-probably no; Cal Poly-possibly yes, depending on your major. The rest of the schools did not have many applicants, so the crystal ball is more fuzzy, but it postulates as follows: Santa Clara-probably no (no one with less than a 3.5 was accepted); USD-yes; Chapman-yes; LMU-yes; Arizona State-yes.

I’d look at University of Redlands.

I agree with ellemenope’s assessments of your list.

Redlands doesn’t have an undergraduate business school. Their School of Business is “Designed for busy professionals who want to immediately leverage their learning” with most classes in the evening.

For comparison with another top-ranked CA high school, here’s Bellarmine College Prep’s Naviance:

[Bellarmine College Preparatory: Students College Guidance Naviance](http://www.bcp.org/students/college_naviance.aspx)

agree with elemenope and I would also give a look at Saint Mary’s College of CA which has a great business program and an app deadline of 2/1. Since you applied to business at CPSLO and it is one of their top, more impacted majors you are up against stiff competition but many of the privates would be very nice alternatives.

Okay, thanks. Santa Clara, SLO, LMU, SDSU and USD, and maybe a couple more that I’m applying to only use M + CR, which I think will help me as I have a 1400 / 1600.

Also my ECs are quite good, and hopefully my essay will turn out great.

Thanks for the chances, and I’ll look into Saint Mary’s.

Thanks for posting your school’s naviances, that helped a lot.

More feedback is always appreciated. ;)

last bump. any feedback is much appreciated. ;)

one more bump howbout

Parents don’t like multiple bumpings and generally don’t do chances, because we aren’t adcoms.

Check out University of La Verne & Cal Baptist
