single or double spaced?
btw. should we submit our common app essays single or double spaced ?

Single spaced.

^ Says who?

It doesn't state that anywhere, as far as I know, atleast.

It's supposed to be single spaced.

max is 7900 characters, just use that. mine is 2 pages singlespaced

ndnguy, I would try to shorten that essay. I think up to 1.5 is stretching it but 2 pages is just overkill

2 pages double spaced would be fine then?

^ 2 pages double spaces would be fine if you could get it to fit onto one page (by single-spacing it)

just follow their instructions and they are less likely to get annoyed with your application....

The actual CommonApp essay doesn't clarify between single and double spaced, only a minimum of 250 words. My CommonApp essay is double spaced, two pages. My "Why Penn" essay is single spaced under 7900 characters.

It would make sense to single space your Why Penn essay because they are giving you the 7900 character limit, and single space is the only method in which you will get the most characters out of the essay...

did they set the limit? and is it 7900 or 790 characters?

7900 but one page (usually single spaced)

this digresses from the original question, but you know how they give you a choice of uploading a doc. instead, what if that essay exceeds the character limit?
for example, i wrote my penn optional essay and w/o spaces, its around 3400 characters, but with spaces its well over 4000!
idk what to do.. i dont think its fair to count spaces as a 'character'. mehhh

but if i do submit my optional essay as that length, will i get penalized (greatly, or at all)?
