Do not have a good AP Physics I teacher, what can I do to succeed?

What I’ve gathered is that AP Physics I is a redesign of the old Physics B course. AP Physics I is supposed to be more conceptual and less geared toward math??? Anyways my worst fear has come true and my teacher is bad at teaching and nearly everyone in the class is confused. He is still teaching it like we’re heading into a Physics B exam and not explaining the actual physics, just handing us formulas and telling us what the variables stand for and what to plug in : (

I am in chemistry this year and my chemistry teacher is the head of the science department at my school. She told me that my physics teacher had an ~80% fail rate for his Physics I exam last year and that the science department is monitoring him. In other words if things don’t go well for him this year he may not be teaching at my school anymore, or at least not teaching AP. This has really scared me.

What can I do to ensure I succeed on the AP exam? This 63% fail rate from 2015 is disheartening. I am not worried about my teacher’s tests because they are probably still math-based. However I am unsure of what exactly I should focus on for this course redesign because my teacher hasn’t even gone over the outline of the AP course structure. He hasn’t even given us a class syllabus! I would really appreciate any tips, resources, etc you can offer! : )
