My son was accepted to:
Cornell
West Point
William and Mary- Monroe Scholar
Boston College- Honors
American- Presidential Scholar
Villanova-scholarship
Waitlisted:
Brown
Columbia
Duke
Penn - Wharton
BUT?
REJECTED BY GEORGETOWN :(????
OH WELL...
GOOD LUCK, GOOD HEALTH, GOOD FORTUNE:)

Georgetown didn't use a waitlist this year; applicants were either accepted or rejected.

And you must realize that it IS highly selective. and it was even more selective this year due to a dramatic increase in applications

Cornell, William and Mary, Boston College, Villanova, and American ALL have higher acceptance rates than Georgetown. Georgetown was one of the most selective schools to which your son applied.

If there was a waitlist, maybe he would have been waitlisted.

Paulus89, I just wanted to note that there most definitely is a Waitlist this year. Quite a few students are on it (look at the RD official results thread), including me.

I'm on the waitlist!!! Just fyi.

I think everyone will agree that college admissions is a crapshoot. There are plenty of reasons why your son might have gotten rejected, and as poster #2 explained, Georgetown is freaking hard to get into anyways.

my apologies to the waitlisted, i was under the impression they were not utilizing it this year

but anymore it is near impossible to get off of it

Did he apply to SFS, because it usually has a stronger applicant pool than the other schools. I also got rejected from Georgetown but accepted at other great schools-cornell williams. It really depends on what they are looking for. I'm not too shocked.

I do think it is funny when you look at each individual persons acceptance record. I got into UPenn and Williams, and was denied by Gtown and Wellesley. And the Acceptance rate at the formers are 17 & 15% respectively and the latter are 20 & 24%...go figure.

college process is a crap shot, i got accepted to GT, ND and BC (catholic power house of United States) but was reject to cornell and Villanova. weird of course i mean Villanova rejected me. so there u go.

i got into columbia and rejected sfs. i had tons of international relations ec's and leadership. owell, i couldn't have afforded $$ gtown anyway.
