I think the title is self explanatory. Probably @amanivy would be able to shed some light on this? Thanks in advance!
I have read in previous posts about Penn interviews that the alumni interviewer might come from any of the Penn schools/ programs and not necessarily the one to which you are applying.
I have seen the MT alum focus on MT applicants in Houston. Not sure if the process is the same across board.
@runswimyoga Iām pretty sure you read across āschoolsā. Definitely not programs
They do try to get M & T alums to interview M & T applicants, whenever possible.
Data from last year for M&T
M&T alumni conducted over 923 admissions interviews with candidates for a coverage rate of 99.6%!
M & T alumni conduct interviews for M & T applicants. I am nearly positive of this since someone in my school applied ED to M & T about 2 weeks after I did and received an interview about 4 days after he applied, while I still have not been contacted (I applied Oct 13 ED to CAS). I think they try whenever they can to make it so the schools line up.
Yup! Looks like M&T alumni interview M&T applicants. I received my interview offer today from an M&T alumni!
Interview is at tomorrow 10:30 AM. around 18 hours from now! Iām super excited!
Yes, M&T student was interviewed by an M&T alum. Good luck!! Hers was very straightforward and enjoyable several years ago.
Yup had my interview as well! Just as you say, it was very straightforward and enjoyable
Hi, I have applied ED for M&T (primary) and Wharton (secondary). I have gotten an interview for M&T and gave it 2 weeks ago, but have not been contacted for a Wharton interview. Can anyone shed light on this? Do students who apply to both typically get 1 or 2 interviews? Iām really WORRIED!
You only get one interview, so you can stop worrying.
Iām applying Vagelos LSM, and my interviewer is a MD PHD, which may make sense and may attest to the dual degree applicant getting degree-specific intervewiers. Just my opinion
i just had my M&T interview. It was pretty short, I told her why I wanted to attend the program, she asked me about what kind of engineering experience I had, I told her about my research, I asked her about how M&T students interacted with each other and that was it. Like only 20-25 minutes, she basically said āyou seem like a good fit for the programā wished me luck and logged off. Iāve heard Penn interviews are pretty short(I had one for MIT that was like 40-45 minutes), but I was hoping for a bit more, but I guess she was really busy which I suspect is the case for a lot of M&T alumns!
M & T applicants are assigned to M&T graduates by the M&T program at Penn. Nursing applicants are assigned a interviewer by the School of Nursing. All other applicants are assigned by the area Chair(s) who are alumsā¦ Some Chairs try to match an applicant by school/major while others match by interviewerās interest. For example: I was a Lit major in the College at Penn but I was a researcher in CS/AI at MIT and Harvard. So who should I interview? I prefer SEAS as CS/AI is my field.
The group that oversees interviews suggests the interview should be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. No matter how bad the interview is, I will give the applicant 1 hour so as not to telegraph that they will get a so so to bad report. But that is me. The only time I cut the interview short is with those group of kids that come to the US in their sr. year of high school and cannot speak English. It is not productive to interview to interview someone with the language skills of a three year old.
Penn has also suggested that I cut the interview short if the applicant is extremely rude and disrespectfulā¦
I have heard of 20 minute interviews and I am not sure what to make of them.
I personally could not form a judgment (unless very negative) in 20m minutes but that is me. Also, the interview can turn as the applicant gets more relaxed so 1 hour works best for me.
