I'll just give cliffs:

-High school senior well within UCLA + Berkeley range (ACT + GPA, etc)
-Got into UCD and UCSB
-Did not get into UCLA or Berkeley
-Want to go to UCLA or Berkeley
-Thinking about attending UCSB then transferring to UCLA/Berkeley
-Is it easy/hard/better to just go to CC + why

Any responses will be greatly appreciated, ty!

People do transfer from UC to UC on occasion. High school statistics will have no weight at all, unless you are applying as a sophomore transfer (few UC’s consider these). To transfer, you will need to finish the pre-requisite courses for your intended major and have 90 quarter units by the time you transfer. If you have enough AP credits, you could attempt the transfer in one year, meaning that you would apply in November of your first year at UCSB. You would then try to finish the pre-reqs in 3 quarters…along with some GE’s making sure that you have 90 quarter units by Spring quarter.

Transferring in one year is uncommon, even amongst CCC students. Typically, the transfer occurs after 2 years. This allows you more time to get your pre-reqs and GE’s done. If you finish SB’s GE requirements, you’ll be done with Berkley’s or UCLA’s.

It is definitely easier to transfer from a CCC. There is no clear articulation between UC’s so it’s hard to know if you really are satisfying pre-reqs. CCC students have assist.org. No programs like TAP exist for UC students. Although UCLA claims to give equal consideration to both CCC transfers and intercampus transfers, you can see from their transfer profiles from previous years, which clearly show that the admit rate for UC-UC transfers is lower. Berkley flat out discourages UC-UC transfers. If your ultimate goal is to end up at one of these schools, going to a CCC is the best choice. If you are okay with getting rejected and finishing your undergraduate work at UCSB or Davis, then go for the intercampus transfer.

UC-UC transfers are more difficult than CCC-UC transfers; that being said neither Berkeley nor LA has a guaranteed transfer program. Also Berkeley does not allow Sophomore level transfers at all. I say just be happy with what you have.

I am currently trying to do that. I’m a 3rd year at UCSB trying to transfer for my last year to UCI. (I have 4-year-old twins and I really need my family’s help). So people do it- but RARELY. I have yet to meet anyone who is trying…
