Do usually people take normal courses before taking APs??
from this site it seems like everyones taking like 10 APs.
but to my knowledge its impossible to do good on APs without previous knowledge. like AP chem the first week we had tests on equipments, periodic tables, ionic numbers, polyatomic ions and stuff. i odn't think ppl would know this stuff without taking a previous class.
do u people do summer school or something?

Most people will take honors chem before taking AP Chem. This is true at my school for all science classes. For math classes (Calc or Statistics) you go straight into the AP class. Same goes for English and sometimes for history (people go straight into AP NSL, but most people take hon US History then AP US history). So, it really depends on the subject.

AP classes for core classes (English, math, sciences, etc) have pre-reqs from honors classes, so generally, students at my school who take core AP classes will have taken regular classes a year or two before. I took honors bio freshman year, and because my school generally doesn't allow sophomores to take AP classes, I didn't take AP Bio until this year.

If a class like AP Psych existed at my school, I think students would be allowed to go straight into that class without having taken anything similar to prep for it.

You have to at my school.

All AP's (except for Art History) have prerequisites at my school.

no prerequisites... except for the obvious... calc before physics C

For our school, to take the AP sciences, you have to be in at least precalc and have taken some prereq's. AP Bio needs biology and chem, AP Physics needs physics (but if you've taken physics that means you've also taken bio and chem!), AP Chem needs chem and physics.

For the AP history/english courses, you just need to take a corresponding GT class the year before...or do really well in an honors class. I went into AP govt after taking US History GT last year, and that's what most people do. After AP govt is AP world history, and for senior year, just an elective.

Art AP's need two years of art beforehand. AP calc is taken after precalc, and AP stats is generally taken after precalc is finished, though some take stats right after algebra II.

AP Art Hist is the hardest among the history APs IMO.

In my school, the sciences have prereqs of the honors level of that course (just AP Bio + AP Chem actually). APUS, AP Euro, AP Gov, AP English (Lit + Lang + Comp), AP Calc, and AP Stats have no prereqs except good grades from a class in the same subject (math, history, etc) in the year before. AP French and AP Spanish require good grades from French/Spanish III H.

It depends on the subject. In my (fairly limited) experience:
Sciences have prereqs.
English doesn't have particular prereqs, just good work in core English.
Other Languages you need to have taken the highest other class in it available/take a test.
Math it has to be the next one on your math track.
History varies.
Arts sometimes intro courses.

Am I missing anything?

All AP's (except for Psychology) have prerequisites at my school.

Well most schools want you to, but I have taken APs in my freshman years without any pre-reqs, like with calc and history and such. It really all depends on the school, and taking 10 APs by your senior or junior year is pretty common since there are tons or people out there and tons of AP classes. Just for teh record, I've taken like 10 APs and like 9 IBs, and that's about average for most seniors at my school.

you can't take any honors or AP classes freshman year. Also since there are very few AP classes offered and very few teachers who teach them, most people are only able to take 2 or 3. (not 2/3 each year 2 or 3 will have been taken by senior graduation)

Most who go into AP have had honors classes, though I know some who have not.

at my school all ap's have pre-req's except ap euro i think

at my old high school (extremely competitive public hs), if you took the subject already, you couldnt take the AP class (cant take bio and then AP bio)

There are no prerequisites at my school except having taken some form of calc before AP Physics.
Science-wise, I was able to go AP Biology Freshman year (5), Ap Environmental Sophomore year (5) Ap Chem Jr year (4.. i hate chem) Ap Physics Sr. year (expected 5).

did u get a A in them?
if u did, how did u manage it
