Do professors let you eat during class?

I have a habit of eating every 2hrs. Therefore, I constantly have to eat something.
I'm just wondering if professors care about bringing foods to the class.
Obviously professors wont notice the food in large introductory classes but how about classes with 15 people?

most of my classes are huge so the professor wouldn’t notice, but I think in a small class you could eat anything that wouldn’t be distracting like a snack or a piece of fruit, maybe even a small sandwich. probably wouldnt be too pleased with a thanksgiving feast.

Most of my profs don’t care; they realize we’re busy people and may have class all the way through the lunch hour. The only time I haven’t been allowed to eat was during labs, for obvious reasons. In smaller classes I try to eat “quiet” foods, like candy bars, gummy worms, etc. I hate it when people bust out a bag of chips or carrots or celery–things that make an obnoxious amount of noise.

Man. I go to a hospitality management school and a culinary arts school. We can bring an entire feast of carved turkey, garlic mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries, pineapple glazed ham and red wine and enjoy while listening to our English professor.

They shouldn’t care, otherwise, they would make a note of it when class starts. Other then that, if you feel bad, sit in the back, and don’t make a mess! EnjoY!

Probably ok. Just don’t be bringing in a Subway sandwich, footlong… ok! ?

I agree @ advising NOT to bring loud snacks. Personally, I’m embarrassed to even have a crinkly wrapper as I eat my candy bar… It kind of annoys me when people bring food all the time, but maybe I’m just jealous… Also, people opening pop bottles is distracting (tss). But I also feel resentment towards the lady who drinks a two-liter giant gas station cup full of soda every class period. She drinks it through a straw, so it’s probably just me having issues.

Most of my professors don’t mind if you bring a snack. I have to be constantly vigilant that nobody I am seated near is eating anything I am allergic to. Blaaah. Thankfully most people do not bring food to class.

I bring english muffins from home every morning to class. No one minds - but then again, one doesn’t make very much noise chewing on english muffins.

Not a big deal if it’s a big class, just don’t bring something loud or with a strong odor. In a small class (5-20) it’d be pretty rude so I would lean against it, but it depends on the class and the professor.

Surprised nobody mentioned what the above poster did. Don’t bring anything with a strong smell associated with it. The professor might pretend that they don’t mind, but they’ll likely find it somewhat distracting. Your classmates probably won’t like you much either (especially the ones that plan to have lunch after class).

Also avoid any noisy snacks.

And for goodness sakes, please chew with your mouth closed. I can’t believe how many people I met in college that didn’t understand this common courtesy.
