Do revisit days help in making the decision?

I am revisiting five of the seven schools that I was accepted to. I already went to one revisit day at a school that was at the bottom of my list but now it's at the top. I really don't have a clear favorite (it changes every day)! My last revisit day is three days before the decisions are due, so if i don't emerge from the whole revisit process with a clear favorite, i don't know what I'm going to do!! I would love to hear from students that have already gone through this as to how much the revisit days helped!! THANKS!!

go with the school that your gut tells you to/the school you had the MOST fun at.

That is a lot of revisits! Ask the students whether they would choose their schools again if they did it all over. See if you get along with the students.

There has to be some way for you to narrow it down - some priorities or values that you have than can help you rank the differences.

How are your revisits going?

On revisits, you should look, not at everything the school is telling you, but what your interests are, and how the school treats the things you love. We ended up choosing #2 for our after the revisit (Had narrowed to 2 before revisiting) because the school seemed to value the arts in a way we had not realized before. On a visit, the tour will show you what the school might offer, but not what they really think is important. Revisits should show you that. One parent told me her d chose the school based on the fact that people smiled and said hello to her on her revisit, and this did not happen at the other school she revisited.

That is a ton of revisits! Two would be better!

I would do a lot of observing, asking, and listening. And take plenty of photos if you didn't on your first visits. Look at the faces of the students who are not involved in the revisit activities. Do they look happy? Friendly? Tired?

Then, as soon as possible after your visit, or during if it works and is not awkward, write down your feelings and observations in categories of your choosing. (what appeals to me most about the campus is _____, the dorms seem, I'm not crazy about _, I loved the fact that the students get to _______, etc.)

This may seem like a pain to do, but it will serve you later when you re-read your own words. And if you see something you love or hate (walkways, tennis courts, ugly building, spacious dining hall, killer science building, beautiful library entranceway, the lake nearby), take a photo and you can use it to remind yourself later. We found that taking photos of students walking around helped to imagine "real life" at the schools.

Good luck!

We are taking a somewhat scientific approach (although I do think the "gut" advice is probably the best!)
My son wrote a list of the things that are most important to him in a school from food, to academics, to sports as a spectator, sports as a participant, fun, facilities, etc.). He then weighted each one on a scale of 1-5 re importance. For example, Academics for him was a 5 - food a 3. He then rated each school against the criteria and multiplied it by the wieghted score - Then he will add them up and have a winner!
Having said this, he will probably end up going with his gut - winner or not. But this exercise may be helpful in figuring out what is important to you! Good luck!

Pepper1, that is exactly the way we approached house shopping. First we set up the values and then we tried it out on our current house. Every time we looked at another house we did it again. It certainly wouldn't have been the final word, but it was fun to have a metric. Good idea!

I WENT AND IT WAS WICKED FUN!
I HAD NO IDEA A REVISIT DAY WAS SO COOL! I MADE FRIENDS WITH THE INCOMING FRESHMEN AND THE CURRENT ONES, MADE ENEMIES WITH THE SENIORS/JUNIORS AND GOT TO REALLY TAKE IN THE SCHOOL!
I made my descision right away, I felt like I belonged so much, I wanted to cry, lol, maybe not that much. Hahahaha

What school Aussie?

Why did you make enemies with the junior/seniors? I assume you are joking a tad here? So....is it Concord or Kent? I'm glad you had such a great day!

Hey guys!! Thanks for the great advice. I am officially done with all of my revisiting now and I have a clear idea of where I am going next year. I will be attending Andover next year!!! I hope that you all have great revisit days and that you are able to find the school that is right for you. Go with your gut!!

Congratulations, illegallyblond!! Andover is an amazing school! Good luck!!
