@CADREAMIN is your student an engineering major, too?
@KAMmom Yes, I have one at SCU in engineering. Sorry for slow reply, I am in that other cc neighborhood more often.
@CADREAMIN thanks!
Thanks to LokiLives for starting this thread. My son is considering SCU and another school for Computer Science (two weeks until decision day!). Heās heard from people on campus that most SCU internships in SV happen through family connections (which we donāt have) and the school does not help that much. Since my son is not overly āaggressiveā about knocking on doors, etc. I wonder if this is a read flag and we should steer him elsewhere.
We went to the preview day today at SCU and they actually talked extensively about internships and I donāt think what you heard is correct information so before deciding against SCU for this reason you might want to do a little more research.
You are welcome, AndyinTx. Itās been a fun journey that is almost over. I work in tech and anyone who can code should be able to find a decent internship. The most coveted companies (Google/Apple) will be competitive, but one of the huge advantages of being in Silicon Valley is the vast number of other tech companies. SCU did indeed find the internship for our student, the company contacted the school looking for interns. Iām sure thatās not the case for everyone. Your son will have to get a top notch Linkedin page and apply for jobs. One thing he will notice when looking for internships is the number available - especially in tech. Get on Linkedin and check it out sometime. The sheer number of jobs/internships available in tech is unreal in SV when compared to other areas. As stated in my previous post, Santa Clara has been good for our student. Good luck!!!
@andylnTX We had zero family connection or any other type connection for Ds internship, nor did her friends. SCU helped her get it no question, same for friends, some who were connected up through their professors.
