Do SAT "Workbooks" Really Helpful?`

I plan to purchase and study either Kaplan's and Barron's SAT-Workbooks or purchase their whole "big" books. In overall, do big books like Barron's SAT 2010 and Kaplan's SAT 2010 are more helpful than Barron's SAT Workbooks and Kaplan's SAT Workbooks?

And another question: I am a high school sophomore...is it late to study for SAT that I will be registered in my junior year?

No. I started studying a week before the test.

Depends on what level you’re at; the big books are mainly helpful for covering basic concepts and facts you haven’t already learned. If you already have the essentials (e.g. vocab words, trigonometry) nailed down, I would recommend practicing with the workbooks and checking over your answers. And no, it’s not too late to study for your SAT. An added benefit would be preparation for your PSAT.

I agree. I hardly studied, which I regret. I had all summer. I started cramming like 2 weeks before the test. I got a decent score. You have plenty of time. I hope to improve at least 100 points for the one in December.

Wow, my sentences were choppy.

I’ve worked with both workbooks and full books. I’d say that if you’re really good in critical reading but not so good in math (hypothetically speaking), get a workbook. If you want to just fully prepare, get the “big” book. Also, it’s never too late to study! However, if you feel you waited too late, just make up for lost time.

What is the purpose of producing Workbooks when the prep book brands already made the “big” books?

This is what I planned for studying SAT:

  1. Studying Workbooks from Barron’s and Kaplan’s–to learn all basic stuffs.
  2. Studying Kaplan’s and barron’s big books–to ehance and brief review of learning from
    Workbooks.
    3)Studying Kaplan’s & Gruber’s & Barron’s SAT 2400.
    4)Blue Book from CB

Do you think it is safe to study this way?

Also, do vocabulary books like “Direct Hits” are good?
