I'm going to transfer to a 4 year university and I'm really worried about this. Two schools that I saw charge around 4-5 k for one year! I know that I can get quite a bit of aid because I'm poor, but I don't have the great parent safety net so many people seem to have. I can always work like a dog in the summers for slave wages but that can only get me so far.

Yes, if the student will not be living at home, need-based scholarships pay for room and board. Check the colleges' web sites for information. Need-based scholarships also cover the expected expenses for books.

What colleges are you considering?

$4-$5 k a year for room and board is very low. Some colleges charge more than twice that for room and board.

Well, If I can get my gpa high enough, hopefully I'll get accepted into UT or atleast A&M. UT doesn't seem too transfer friendly :(.
