Do schools look at final grades?

Do you schools look at your end of year grade for the class. Or very individual grade for each semester.

For applicants, you are generally required to send both first semester/trimester and end-of-year transcripts. The transcripts must be sent directly from your current school to the school/s to which you are applying.

So do they look at each individual term grade(ex: term 1: A in french, term 2: B+ in french, term 3: A in french, term 4,5,6: A in french), or the grade you get at the end of the year/course called your final grade(ex: final grade for french: A)?

When you apply to schools, they request a transcript of your grades that your school registrar will send. Usually they request grades from the past two years. The grades are expected to include the most recent term completed. Even if your term ends in January after many schools’ deadline, they expect your first term grades from this year. Depending on your school transcripts may look different.

If you are concerned, I recommend you ask for an unofficial copy of your transcript from your current school’s registrar. It will show you how YOUR school formats transcripts.

Reading between the lines, I would say a) there is likely no way to “hide” a bad term grade and b) don’t sweat a single small dip or two, if your grades are generally strong.
