Do Softs matter?

It seems that the general consensus is LSAT + GPA = 95%.

So for HYS, do softs actually matter unless you're a gold medal winner, cured cancer, reached peak aesthetics?

Like should I seek an internship and stuff like that?

AFTER numbers, softs can matter at Y&S, and perhaps Chicago. (Due to their small class sizes, they can be choosier.) But after those 2/3, no softs do not matter.

I am not a law school admissions officer, but I imagine that it’s more of a binary thing than any sort of scale (except on the most extreme ends): if you don’t have any extracurricular activities, internships, or work experience, law schools may get skittish about you. However, I doubt that they care whether you were President or merely Secretary of the Society for Creative Anachronism.

If you were a nationally-ranked debate champion, or have patented inventions or ten years of work experience, your GPA and LSAT may matter less, but for almost everyone, ‘soft’ factors aren’t a factor at all.

The soft factors that matter are usually things you have no control over, such as URM Status or geographic diversity.
