Do some applicants already know that they are in ?

I am an SCEA applicant. I heard a very strange gossip today at my high school. I heard that one of my classmates who has recently published a 200 page book has already been told by Stanford that he is in. On the same lines, there is another student who is an excellent athelete and it looks like that this student has also been told by stanford that she is in..

I don't think this is true but want to hear from other members what they have to say.. I think it is BS

Yes, the recruited athletes for the most part should already know and have been accepted early. Don’t know about non-athletes though.

Non-athletes probably don’t hear back until December 15-ish…

Recruited athletes should know by now. For the others – maybe Stanford started sending the “early writes”?

Recruited athletes will always be informed before the first NCAA signing date for their sport (varies by sport) if they have already been identified by the coach as making the coach’s cut.

I don’t know if Stanford does earlier notification for others.

Yes, recruited athletes definitely know by now. It seems like my son’s friend (a recruited athlete) has known for at least 6 - 8 weeks. However other friends who have applied – and are not athletes – are still waiting to hear.

isnt the questbridge stuff out tomorrow too?

yes, Questbridge finds out tomorrow sometime. Good luck to all

My D is a recruited athlete and she has not yet been notified. However, everyone in our town thinks that she has already been notified that she has been accepted. One of her coaches told a friend of mine that Stanford had been in contact with him and that she had been accepted. He’s lying. She didn’t even give them his name. She gave them the name and contact information of another coach. Teacher’s from her school have called me and told me they’ve heard she’s been accepted. A Stanford student she met on her recruiting trip had even sent her congratulations because this false rumor was circulating on Facebook. It’s a case of many people making false assumptions.

That said, some of the scholarship athletes in certain sports were sent early letters of intent to sign in November. Those students do know that they are in.

cookiemom, colleges often talk to coaches even before a student sends a recruiting form. National-caliber athletes are almost always talked to or contacted, even without prior initiation.

I know colleges talk to coaches, but it’s the college coaches that talk to the high school coaches, not the admissions office. Only the admissions office admits students and not everyone that is recruited gets admitted.

My point is that everyone thinks my D has been notified of an acceptance when in fact that is not true.

cookiemom- My son is a Stanford athletic recruit and has only been officially notified of admission by the coach. Application was made during the early read period. Did your daughter apply SCEA or early read? If SCEA, it would explain why she hasn’t heard directly from admissions yet.

zannerina- She applied SCEA and she’s not being offered an athletic scholarship, so she didn’t qualify for early read. She doesn’t expect to hear until 12/15.

cookiemom-Good luck to your daughter! Having the coaches support of her application is a a good thing.

I’m a recruited athlete and the coach at Stanford told me I would find out around the 15th like everyone else.

Rejected Right Here.

collegehopeful, how do you know?

i’m sorry…i’ve read some of your other posts and i’m sure you’ll end up somewhere unbelievable.

someone from our school was recruited and found out about the acceptance around october.

Thanks avvdaxes. I know because I was a Questbridge Finalist. They will still consider my app for RD so fingers crossed.

Yea. deferred right here.
