Do some recruited athletes get "more support" than others?

eliptica - that is really terrible that you were waitlisted. did you then go to another school or eventually get into the school that recruited you?

Nah, I didn't stay on the waitlist because I couldn't believe that I was essentially promised admission and then that type of **** happened (the coach told me in JANUARY to not even fill out any other applications, so glad my parents made me). I ended up going to the school that did the least recruiting of me (Tulane) because they offered the most money. . .don't know how that worked out.

Maybe I'm just unlucky, the school I commit to waitlists me, the school I decide on gets shat on by a hurricane, and the other schools I can't afford. :(:(

sorry to open up an old post, but what school waitlisted you ecliptica??

Davidson, I think.

Indeed it was Davidson.

I'm loving Tulane track right now though and am really glad I came here. Coach Mills is a world record holder in the 4x400 (1996 Olympic gold medal as well - 43.8 in the 400m) and his workouts have been kicking the **** out of me so far. I can't wait to run this year (though I'm not looking forward to 6x300 @ 40 seconds w/3 minutes rest tomorrow). I don't even know why I considered Davidson, the social scene here is amazing (though I'm in tonight because of drug testing tomorrow :)) and I never want to leave.

Will the team compete this spring? Can you stay at Tulane and just run club track the next few years? Glad things are going well there.

Yup, the team is competing, we had a meeting on Monday night with the athletic director and they actually brought back four "suspended" sports (men's/women's tennis, women's diving, men's track) for he season.
Whether or not we'll have a team next year is the question right now, but I assume if we can get 14 guys to come out, the school will find some way to pay the expenses.

That is great news. Good luck with the season and let us know how it goes.

Tehre is a big difference between "regular" D1 & DII schools and the ivies in how they divvy up the money. Ivies are still theoretically based on "financial need" unless they can come up with a special academic deal. "Regular" D! & !! programs have a specified number of scholarships per sport and somone may get a "full" or partial scholarship. Very important to discuss up front.
