<p>I think all of the applicant stats matter very little in college admissions. I think the most important factors are where you’re from and your race… If you’re from an “outreach area” you have an infinitely better chance than if you’re from New Jersey. If you are an URM, the same holds. If I’ve learned one thing from looking at CC profiles of accepted students, it is that the numbers don’t really matter beyond a certain threshold.</p>
<p>The good thing about this is that it demolishes any ideas about people being smarter just because they go to School X. Yes, there are complete idiots at Harvard. Yes, there are geniuses at state schools.</p>
<p>I think the overall outcome of this is that:
- Society is going to begin to recognize that degrees don’t necessarily imply intelligence.
- Degrees from prestigious institutions are going to gradually lose their value, especially in the job market but also in the public perception.</p>
