Does it really matter how well you did for senior year? Will the UCs even look at it before they make their decision? I’m wondering because before senior year, my GPA was low (around 3.1); now, for senior year, first semester is like 3.85

yes .

Yes, if you get a supplemental questionnaire from Berkeley.

No for other UC's. Remember they don't even ask for your transcripts until after you're accepted. So, they don't care if you did well, they only care if you did horribly.

that questionnaire from berkeley doesn't even help that much...everyone that got it at my school last yr got rejected, me included. but i guess if you got a 4.0 or something it could help

I recieved the same questionnaire and filled it out. They asked for a letter of recommendation which i submitted. The only thing that I'm worried about now is my semester grades. I had no idea that Uc's would ask for that and did kind of bad in first semster. I have 2B;s, 1 C+ in Ap class, 3 As. would that make them reject me?????????
Also someone just said that everyone at his school who got the questionnaire got rejected!!!!!?????? The other posts say that they got in!
I'm Soooo confused! Am i just getting my hopes up for no reason???!!!
Help please!!!!!!!
Thank you!

Will it make a difference for Santa Cruz, Irvine, Davis, or Santa Barbara? Even if they don't see my grades, will it help a lot when they see that I am taking 2 AP classes during senior year (first time I'm taking AP classes)?

I don't think It'll make a difference since they make their admission decision without seeing any of your semster grades for the senior year. when you get accepted you have to not get a D and to have your GPA above 3.0.

alexis2007..i'm having the same problem..berkeley just asked me for one and i'm really scared

Hye345: I think they look at the classes you're taking senior year to make sure you're not totally checked out. So taking two AP Classes senior year should make your application look a little better when they review it. However, I don't think they care what your senior grades are as long as you keep a 3.0 weighted (for UCI) and don't get any D's.

Why would Cal ask for your first semester senior year grades if it doesn't help at all? Public schools are not interested in getting sent extra crap that they don't need from applicants. So, the fact that Berkeley asks for first semester senior grades is an indication that it matters.

As for what kind of GPA would help with that supplemental review, no one knows. Certainly a 4.0 unweighted GPA is best, but what is good? I can only speculate that if you are performing at the same level (similar course difficulty), then you should be okay. Of course, if you are performing better with a more difficult courseload, then that's even better. In the end, you should know better than to slack off when you are a borderline applicant (most of the time you would know that you are one), because a low senior year GPA sure doesn't help them decide if you're truly Cal material.

well yeah, if they're asking for it, that probably means u still have a chance, but i'm just saying that everyone who got it at my school didn't get in last yr. maybe it's diff this yr tho

"Public schools are not interested in getting sent extra crap that they don't need from applicants."
haha nicely said.

for schools who want first semester grades.. it matters, for those who dont want it.. it doesnt really matter.. as long as you arent failing your classes.. you are fine.

stop

go back go back

what's that bereklely questionnare?
i never got that; is it optional or smething?
whos it for.?

They only send the questionaire to students on the edge who they might still consider for admissions. Students are given a second chance and depending on what they have to say in response to the questionaire they sometimes convince admissions to let them in. Poor senior year grades do not help.

can I send them my senior year grades even if they don't send the questionaire?

I'm really, really on the borderline and I performed extremely well 1st semester of my senior year

Sure, send it to them, but they'll most likely throw it away since they didn't ask for it. Berkeley doesn't have the money to hire admission officers to read random letters from applicants.

"can I send them my senior year grades even if they don't send the questionaire?

I'm really, really on the borderline and I performed extremely well 1st semester of my senior year"

stressedOut I would not bother. If you are on the edge (according to admissions, and IMO nothing else even matters) they will send you the questionaire. It won't help at all if they have already removed you from consideration. At this point it is just too late. If you had a reason for not performing well when it really counted (soph and jr year) hopefully you addressed that in your application. If you didn't, it is too late now. There are plenty of great UC schools besides Cal, and if they reject you, chances are you just don't belong there. Why would you want to go to a school where you would be unable to compete anyhow? Just relax about it now. Where else did you apply? Do you feel you have a decent chance there? Start focusing on what is great about those other schools. :)

No, I don't think you could do that If they haven't asked for It. If you haven't recieved the questionnaire, It means that the admission officers were able to make up their mind whether to accept you or not. They don't need more Information from you to make a decision. But for those of us who got It, It means that they are looking for some more proof to show If we could work at their level or not. ( to admit us or not).

will they be sending out anymore questionaires? some of my friends got them but i didnt. the sad part is that they have much better grades and sat scores than me and it just seems like its a sign that im probably rejected.
