Do Sternies need a printer?

It appears that having a computer, whether it be a desktop or laptop, is necessary to avoid all the hassle.
Is a printer as necessary as a computer when it comes to getting things done (especially in stern)?

thanks for responses!

everyone needs a printer, you'll be printing stuff out literally every day. You can get one for like $20 no reason not to get one.

you should check with your roommate...usually one printer/room is fine...coordinate and see if you can split what to bring.
for the heavy printing, free printing in stern labs

thankss everyone. but will I be printing mostly colored documents or simple black and white papers? usually new color printers are +100 dollars..
ehh. this computer already cost me $1600! :-0

new color printers are less than $50 nowadays, I think mine was $30.

a few things in color, mostly black and white. When you start doing more Stern classes, you'll need to print colored graphs and such though.

i recommend not sharing printer with a roommate. My roommate initially shared mine, and 1) we always ran out of paper 2) printer is generally going to be right by someones head, and early morning/late night printing is going to wake your roommate up and **** him off greatly (and you will be in a rush for atleast some of the paper) 3) hard to figure out compensation (ink is expensive)

Do they have photocopiers at the Stern computer labs? Just wondering, because people would want to go to Kinko's every time they want to photocopy things for presentations....:D

It'd be more convenient to have a printer, but no, not necessary if you don't mind waking up 10 min earlier and printing something out at a computer lab. 3 different labs in Tisch Hall have free printing & (not free) photocopiers, one has a scanner (free). For freshmen, there is free printing at the 3rd North lab and (I think) the Weinstein lab.
