Hey guys, I might apply to a liberal arts college, but I'm not sure because I've read maybe 4 or 5 threads about students who aren't happy and they all happen to be at LACs.

Why is this? Or did I just coincidentally happen to run into these 4 or 5 threads in a row?

Coincidence.

There are unhappy students at LAC's, there are unhappy students at universities. Either way, it's often the fact that the disgruntled/disappointed student simply didn't know what he was getting into, or didn't fully realize his options. Whatever faith you do or don't put into Princeton Review's lists, LAC's are well-represented on the list of "Happiest Students" (far more so than they are on the list of "Unhappiest Students," although they're outnumbered by universities on both) and the top three schools for "Best Quality of Life" are all LAC's (as are five of the top ten). Different strokes for different folks.

Visit a LAC. Sit in on a class. Talk to students. Walk around campus. Visit a larger university. Sit in on a class. Talk to students. Walk around campus. If you're able, spend a night at each place (Thursdays are ideal for a cross-section of academic and social life).

There are reasons a student might be unhappy at a LAC (and of course, reasons a student might be unhappy at any other type of school), but don't be afraid that a huge number of LAC students feel let-down by their schools.
