Do students who are selected for the Discover Middlebury Program get admitted to Middlebury?

I applied for the Discover Middlebury program (had to provide a transcript and SAT scores, as well as write an essay). They accepted me and flew me out to the college. While I was there, the admissions officers said that as long as our grades stay the same and nothing changes (no disciplinary action, etc), that the program is very selective and that they thought about who would be accepted to the program and that we would “likely receive good news” if we applied. Some of the other students who were running the program also said that students who get accepted to the program are usually admitted. Does that mean that if I apply I will get in? Or no?

It sounds like there is a high likelihood that you will be accepted if you apply but they aren’t promising anything.

I don’t understand why you are asking this. Why not accept the plain meaning of the words that were used? The administrators said “likely receive good news” which is very positive, but is clearly not a guarantee of admission.

Hi Zulueee! I was also at DiscoMidd (: what I’ll say is this–I think the replies above are entirely correct. “Likely receive good news” kind of implies that we are LIKELY candidates for admission. But if you remember what the admissions officer said following those kind words (that we must continue to do well through our senior year), it’s not a complete guarantee IF you plan on screwing around in the next few months. Give good results and you’ll get good news.
