Hi, I'm a senior applying to Cal this fall and want to know if UC-transferrable summer courses count toward the weighted UC GPA. I took Precalculus at community college in the summer after sophomore year and English 1A Composition the summer after my junior.
Will these courses be weighted and given honors credits if they appear on my high school transcript?
Thank you.

unfortunately, no. man would my GPA be a masterpiece if that were the case…

^Incorrect. I asked an admissions office volunteer and they informed me that summer classes at community colleges, at Cal, are counted as FULL YEAR weighted classes (like taking another AP). At UCLA, they only count for a semester.

But anyway, yes, your GPA will get a good boost.

No, Waiting4College is right. Transferable summer school courses only give you indicated number of units and fulfill requirements (per assist.org). All those units are treated like AP credits – they don’t affect your GPA.

The question has two possible interpretations due to the dual meaning of “UC GPA”:

Does the undergraduate admissions office include community college classes taken in grades 10-12 in the UC-approved high school course list GPA (“UC GPA”) calculation? Yes. I’m pretty sure that transferrable courses (see www.assist.org) are treated as honors/AP courses when calculating high school GPA. I’m not sure whether non-college level courses like precalculus are treated as honors/AP.

Does the university registrar include community college courses in the calculation of college GPA on the UC Berkeley transcript (“UC GPA”)? No.

^^actually, there is a third interpretation of the question:

3) Does taking classes at Cal during summer session count for UCLA’s gpa once matriculated to that Southern campus? :)

But for Frosh application purposes, regardless of where taken, all a-g courses (including IGETC transferable equivalents) count for the Frosh application “UC gpa”.

For ELC purposes, college summer courses can count for elc gpa if your HS GC puts them on your transcript, or otherwise submits them to UC for elc review.

Once admitted to Cal, the summer courses taken at Cal during HS WILL be part of your Cal gpa (since they are Cal courses).

I was answering mrniphity’s first interpretation. He is correct. And all UC-approved honors are weighted. If you take honors precalc, that will be weighted as long as you make sure it’s UC approved. There’s a site to check, too lazy to find it…

Since there is already a topic. I am senior in HS now; I took Chem 1A over the summer and got a B. This will probably go into my UC GPA for Admission. But will it it be added to my UC GPA at a UC after admitted?
