I have already begun drafting/editing my common app essay but I was wondering how the essay prompts on supplement applications work. For example, I downloaded the Princeton supplement to look at it and wasn't sure if it would be worth my time to start on the essay because I don't know if schools update their supplements each year at a certain time and if they change the essay prompt from year to year. I hope this makes sense. Basically, is it too early for me to start writing my supplement essays because they might change for next years application?

Some schools keep the same prompts from year to year, but not all. Some schools already have their 2013 prompts on their websites, but they will all be available on August 1.

I usually say to hold off on the short-takes, but looking at P from last year, I remember many of those from when D1 applied in 2007. The P supplemental essay about your past two summers is the same as in 2007, not sure about the main supplemental essay, someone on the P forum might know.

Some schools definitely change from year to year: UChicago, Amherst…
