Do supplement essays change?

Does the Rice supplement essays change year to year or do they stay the same (letter-for-letter or as a general idea)?

I'm a rising senior hoping to get a head-start on college essays, which is why I ask.

Here is the 2009-2010 application with the essays (I think) at page 3 and 4:

That’s the supplement essay that I responded to. When I did my Rice interview with a Rice Alum (She’s a 3rd year med student now) it was the same for her as well. So, I’m going to make an educated guess and say that it doesn’t change from year to year.

I applied to Rice in December of 08 (Class of 2013), and I had the same supplement essays. I’m assuming they are not going to change this year, but I might be wrong. You can go ahead and call or send an email to the admissions office and ask if they are going to have the same supplement essay prompts.

Do you guys happen to know the word/character limits of the “Why this undergrad college at Rice”?

thought it was 500 words. Id say just keep it to the point and not too long.

I would say keep both short answers (“Why _____ academic division?” and “Why Rice?”) to approximately 200 words. If you look at the supplement, they give the same amount of space for the “Why _______ academic division” as to the “Why Rice?” essay.

Those were the same questions we had when I applied five years ago. I think you’re good.
