I know that, for example, UChicago's prompts change every year. But at most schools, do the supplemental essays change year to year or are they pretty much a constant "Why X college?" I'm asking because I'm a junior and would like to get a headstart on the colleges I plan to apply to.

wondering the same thing!

Normally the essay questions stay pretty consistent from year to year; Uchicago is just a unique one. If anything, the wording may change a bit or the rare occasion they use a completely new question.
Common App essays normally stay the same though rumor has it that the optional essay choicemay be taken away for next year.

Most of the long (500+ word) essay choices stay the same. I know a couple of school switch out the shorter responses that they may have. However if you manage to get a headstart using this years application essays, and then they change, chances are another school you’re applying to or a school assignment will have the same prompt. Go for it.
