Do teacher recs matter?

"Only test scores are important at Stanford. If the other factors matter at all, they do so under the towering shadow of 'test scores.'"

I can see why your name is pessimist.

"In response to pessimist: Stanford rejects more than half of the perfect score applicants... Puh-leeze, one thing that set Stanford apart from the Ivy league in the past is that it is not a test-score driven. Go back to the cornell board. XD"

Yeah, Stanford rejects more than half of the perfect-score applicants. I've actually heard they reject around 50-55% of 1600s; which also means that they accept or defer around half of 1600s, which represent better odds than the regular early rates anyway, where over 60% of all applicants are rejected. Even so: What about the 1590s, 1580s, 1570s, etc?

Of course, Stanford's median SAT score seems reasonable; however, does Stanford tell you the medians for athletes and non-athletes, respectively? Stanford cares more about athletics than most Ivys. You must believe that recruited athletes for basketball, etc. in the 1400s, 1300s, and maybe even below weigh down this statistic, giving you a false image of how high your score really has to be to get in as a non-athlete.

^and you would know this because? (or is it just your "assumption".)

What part of my argument are you referring to?

Yeah, you don't want to further any single argument, you just want to be an J@***ss...

What's with the hostility, man? I am just trying to add my perspective from a former applicant. If you disagree with my perspective, so be it. I don't want you to be as disappointed as I was when I was deferred EA and didn't get in RD.

Uh, you're only adding potential fuel to the fire.

Screw those football players and their lower standards, the lineman got my spot?

Or am I supposed to say, well, I would have gotten in, but they lower their standards for other students?

Rejection sucks, plain and simple, but you can't stop kids from being WAY TOO CRAZY about college admissions. Frankly, I've loved Stanford for a really long time, and have spent 11 weeks on campus. If I dont get in in a couple of weeks, I won't shed a tear or be too sad about it.
1) I have other schools I like a lot
2) Its only college
3) Its only undergrad
4) I'm going to have fun and be a medical anthropologist no matter what...
