Just wondering... I'd prefer if they didn't. I don't think it's anyone's business but mine and my parents'... yeahhh. lol :D

Usually, the recommendation letters are sent by the teachers directly to the college. You might not even see what they say.

I’m doing everything online, including the recommendations. I don’t think they’re sent directly to the college, but through the commonapp thing. And I didn’t say I wanted to see what the recommendations say. I just don’t want to share what colleges I am applying to with my teachers.

I think if you signed that confidentiality thing, they probably do see it. But of course, why would you care. It’s not like they are going to stop you from applying…

I think they just send it in to the Common App and you deal with who gets the letters on your own. After all, you can fill out the Common App and get the recommendations sent in without even indicating which colleges you want to send them to. I think they’d only know if you told them. Someone from the school has to know, though, because they need to send transcripts…

With that said, though, if I were a teacher, and someone asked me for a rec letter, the first things I’d ask is “Where are you applying?” just to make small talk, and I’d think it was weird if the student wouldn’t tell me… It’s not really a big deal to them, they’re just writing a letter.

Most teachers send the LoRs directly to the colleges through the Common App Online Forms System, Naviance or they mail them to the college. How do you think a teacher will respond to your secrecy? If you trust them to write for you, you should respect that with full info. If I were a teacher and faced this, I would be tempted to politely decline to write the letter. You should ask your GC what the policy is, at your school. If teachers write a generic letter and some admin gets them to the right schools, perhaps you can limit their info. It doesn’t sound like you’re confident about the letters.

Lol, I have no problem telling my guidance counselor/the transcript lady, but for my teachers I will tell them all of the non-ivy places that I’m applying to. I only have a problem sharing that I want to apply to ivies. Lol, I don’t want them to think I’m crazy/laugh at me behind my back. I hate being judgeddd

If anyone is interested, I found the answer to my question here:

You are inviting them to write a letter for one college at a time. So why wouldn’t they know.
