I know they get an email when you first assign them, but do they get another notification when you assign them to another college?
The first time, you should let them know in person if possible before you assign a teacher. At minimum email them and share some info about yourself.
Once they have done their first one in Common App their same letter will be used each time and there is nothing more for them to do, but you should still let them know and thank them.

Alright thank you! I have already asked a teacher and added him, but I didn’t know if common app would email him each time I add him to a college
